I wouldn't mind if I were fully blind
As long as you'd be there to hold my hand
You and I we would roam the countryside
The fairest pair of squares in all the land
If you went deaf I would guide you with each breath
I'd leave a trail of whispers like souvenirs
You could be my eyes, yes, and I would be your ears
And together we would conquer all our fears
Sing to me the sunset and I'll paint for you the tune
Of how two lovers lost did find their way
They held each other underneath the waning moon
And there they lay 'til they were old and gray
If my heart went black and could not find its own way back
I'd count on you to light the lamp for me
If you had no belongings I would grant you all you lack
From the stars down to the bottom of the sea
Ask me not your fate for I can't even see the past
These eyes of mine are good for naught but looks
Ask not to steal my heart because, dear, you already have
Faster than a band of thieves and crooks
Sing to me the sunset and I'll paint for you the tune
Of how two lovers lost did find their way
They held each other underneath the waning moon
And there they lay 'til they were old and gray

Hopeless Romantic
02:16
|
|||
You don't know me too well
But I think we're a team
Don't ask me how I can tell
I burst at the seams
'Cause I don't know what to think
And I don't know how to say
I think I fell for you today
I'm your best friend
And you're my worst secret
Bad is how this will end
Out my mouth it will leak
It isn't easy to hide
Can't keep it at bay
I think I fell for you today
From your carnation toes
To your daffodil hair
A garden of eden
Temptations I bear
To you I'm a pal, a listener of sighs
A shoulder to cry on over different guys
I'll attempt to dislike you, I will hope and I'll pray
That I don't fall for you today
Ten years along
And we're still birds of a feather
I wrote you this song
So that we might be together
And I know how it sounds
I know it's cliché
But I think you fell for me today
I think I fell for you today
I think that we're in love

Nowhere Town
02:51
|
|||
Take me with you when you go
Somewhere warm
Where the rooster's crow
Rings for miles
This bitter winter's grip has got me chilled
Right to the bone
So let's just go and run away
For now
And soon enough we'll settle down
But until then
We'll wear the crowns
And be the king and queen
Of Nowhere Town
Frost is slowly covering my heart
Please warm it now
Though I'm not sure how
It'll help
Put your jacket on until the spring
Or you will freeze
I beg you: please put on your coat
For now
And soon enough they'll find our bones
But until then we'll guard our thrones
And be the king and queen
Of Nowhere Town
Do you even know me anymore?
Or have you gone
In search of warmth
And shining sun?
A single sign of spring is finally here
A flower dear
For you alone, for you to keep
For now
And soon enough the birds will sing
But until then we're on the wing
And I'm the king and you're the queen
Of Nowhere Town

Planes
06:24
|
|||
There in the sky they met
Faceless and far away
There all alone in the sky
A jungle of steel and concrete
He, wondering why his words
Fell to the ground unheard
She, wondering why she screamed
Without so much as a nod in return
Then, like a dove, flew a page
To her feet unfolded
The words as she read made her smile
She knew them to be true
She answered him with a page
And he sent one more on its way
White notes of love spun madly
Through the air
And when the sun sank
They didn't know what to do
Waiting for the dawn
So it went on each day
There on the roof above all
Gifts of words on paper
Holding captive the hearts in their chests
It went on 'til one day the downdraft
Made all the planes spiral down
She did not return; he waited
Creating a flock of lonely thoughts
Left with his thoughts he began
To slip silently from himself
Dreams of wings and feathers
Formed a plan in his mind
And when he awoke it was dark
And, though awake, still in dream
Waiting for the dawn
Then, as he jumped, she appeared
She grabbed his arm and pulled him back
They then embraced with a kiss
A single piece of paper floated down
The words, as he read, made him cry
He knew them to be true
Yes the words on the page made him cry
They said "Please don't jump dear. I love you."

Lilliputian Sight
02:22
|
|||
I had another dream last night
I washed up on the shore
But then I gained lilliputian sight
And my sanity was no more
My thoughts and problems melted to become as one
They floated past and waved as they went by
Your face appeared and it evolved into ecstasy
And that I can't deny
Sixty men six inches tall
Scaled my arms and legs
They roped me up and tied me down
Secured with stakes and pegs
Like Gulliver I was ensnared
Escape was last in line
And though I was held captive there
I was feeling rather fine
My thoughts and problems melted to become as one
They floated past and waved as they went by
Your face appeared and it evolved it rhapsody
And that I can't deny
In this floating world I sank like a lead balloon
The swelling pain in my shrinking head took me for a trip
Down the rabbit hole
Then suddenly in clarity I woke up from my bed
I found you there in the kitchen chair
A sight for the sorest eyes

Big Fish
02:47
|
|||
I was born in the sky
I saw it all as I fell
The water melded with the land
Forming handsome hues
But then again I say, my friend
It might have been a dream
Yet never have I felt so damned alive
I lived in the sea
I saw it all as I swam
Fish with lights on their heads
Guided me like crossing guards
But now it's time that I rewind
And get my story straight
So they can write a right fine eulogy
I died at the core
I saw it all as it burned
The rock reduced to fire
Allowing me to shine
But then again I say, my friend
It could be one tall tale
But I wouldn't bother you if it weren't true

Whispers
03:07
|
|||
Whispers ring in your head
Wandering the space inside your skull
The sound becomes jarring, strident noise
Regrets cry out in your mind
Things you've left unsaid and done
The calls keep you from your sacred rest
And now you see how life can be
Lacerating you
The guilt of your mistakes fills you
An ether of despair
Enough to make you rise up from your grave
The meaning of your greatest deed: nothing
An empty accolade
Pray to God he'll let you try again
And now you see how life can be
Lacerating you

Fireflies
05:15
|
|||
Running through the meadow we arrive at that kingdom of ours
Tucked away in secrecy and we've sworn to keep it that way
Running through the meadow you've fallen and scraped your knee on the stump
That used to be the tree that we'd climb high to reach the sky
Running through the meadow
It greets us as its guests
Until the fireflies fill the air
And we lay down to rest
Aging in the city, our old friends all have gone
The postcards slowly fade and faces follow suit
Aging in the city, what are we to do when we're passed?
Past our prime, the grass was just so green
Aging in the city
It greets us as its guests
Until the headlamps fill the air
And in the ground we rest
|
||||
9. |
||||
In the end we will sit around the fire
Singing hymns 'til there's nothing left to do
But write our names upon the wall
In the end we'll lose it all
Now and then I still think about you darling
Remember when we would sit and watch the starlings
Stealing all our shiny things?
Pointy beaks and beating wings
And I wander on
Searching for the root of all good things
And I wander on
Have you learned all the music that I gave you?
I was so stern but there are things we're all a slave to
Always present, time and space
Yet our paths are hard to trace
We used to run all in circles 'round each other
It was kind of fun when we'd worry both our mothers
'Til it bit us in the ass
Laying bleeding in the grass
And I wander on
Searching for the root of all good things
And I wander on
Searching for the root of all good things
And I wander on
Searching for the root of all good

The Last Song
01:37
|
|||
This'll be the last song that I write
I'm going back tonight
Back to the years when no concerns were holding me down
Mine will be the last tune that you hear
Before your tender ears go quickly deaf
From the deafening pop of traveling time
Maybe if I'm lucky I'll receive
A massive jubilee
Where all my friends gather round to see me
But if I go way too far back in time
I'll be primordial slime and then you know
I will go and evolve into all of Earth's creatures
Like a swan and a squirrel and a pterodactyl
Of course there's always a small chance I'll die
But I'll ask that you don't cry; it's just a phase
It's like a daze that I can return from whenever I like
'Cause I'm not dead; inside my head I'm still alive
